Thanks for the info! This place is definitely going on my list. Do you have any recommendations for making restaurant reservations? Most people recommend having your hotel concierge make the phone call, but I'm not staying at a hotel. Any thoughts?
sure - just go to the tourist information centre in Kyoto station (near the Isetan dept store) and get them to call on your behalf .I think there is another branch of the TIC uptown too but not sure exactly where it is. I recommend this to people if they are not staying in a hotel. And also get them to tell them that you don't speak Japanese but that you are happy for them to recommend what you eat - if you are up for that. Or you can just point at stuff on the grill or other peoples' plates... or just order some of the stuff I ordered here. The chef is a lovely guy and the locals will try to help you anyway - it's that kind of place. Enjoy!
@anonymous - apologies for the delay . yes you can get in here - just book ahead as they are always really busy! ask a Japanese speaker to call on your behalf. cheers, Jane
I don't recall anyone smoking here... but can't say for sure I'm afraid. I'm pretty sensitive to it myself so my guess is that it is smoke free. The other place I recommend on here - sumibi torito does allow people to smoke. However as the place is so smokey from the grill - it isn't so noticeable.
Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteWhat would it cost for 2 people to eat at a restaurant like this?
Hi Mike, this place is around 3000-4000 yen per head with plenty of food and maybe a glass or two of beer or sake. Cheers, Jane
